Federal Aviation Administration alerts- Nine missing after military aircraft crash between a Marine helicopter and a Coast Guard plane.

San Diego, CA—Nine people are missing after a Coast Guard plane collided with a Marine helicopter while in the sky above the Pacific Ocean. Officials reported a sighting of a fireball around 7:10 p.m., on Thursday, October 29, 2009 about 25 east of San Clemente Island, as reported by CNN.

Coast Guard and Navy rescue teams scoured the area of the crash Thursday night in hopes of finding the nine missing people. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) http://www.faa.gov/ reported a Coast Guard C-130 plane transporting seven people and a Marine Corps AH-1 Cobra helicopter carrying two people crashed for unknown reasons.

At this time, there have been no survivors or bodies recovered. Several helicopters, three Coast Guard cutters, and four Navy ships are still searching the crash area in hopes of recovering any surviving victims safely. The search conditions are reportedly favorable with light winds and calm waters. Debris has been spotted in the water, and rescue crews are combing through the debris looking for any signs of life. Officials have not released the identities of the missing victims at this time. The FAA and military officials are expected to conduct a full investigation into the unknown cause of the aviation crash.
