This summer , the Woodland Discovery Centre, located next to Go Ape at Chessington , will take part in nationwide activities to raise awareness of local wildlife and native species living in its 60 acre woods.

Up to Sunday August 6, guests visiting the centre can join in the Big Butterfly Count, the world’s biggest survey of butterflies with more than 36,000 people taking part in 2016 and backed, most notably, by Sir David Attenborough.

Chessington’s local wilderness explorers will be on hand with crafts and activities each day, with guests also having the chance to take part in official butterfly counts at 11am and 2pm.

There’s a chance to make a butterfly feeder at noon and 3pm as well.

Families can join in the Big Butterfly Count

Alongside the Big Butterfly Count, the Woodland Discovery Centre will also be hosting a Big Bug Bonanza, with lots of fun insect and creepy crawly activities, as well as unearthing what fascinating creatures exist in Surrey’s native habitats.

Join the search for mini-beasts and help make a bug hotel (each day at noon and 3pm), from Monday August 7 through to Sunday August 13.
