Regional Police To Benefit From Software, Training American Academy Of Applied Forensics At CPCC Hosts Internet Evidence Collection Course

Huntersville, NC - November 2, 2009 -- Investigators from across the Carolinas have been invited to receive training from Reno, Nevada-based Vere Software. The two-day course, running Nov. 9-10, will help them better understand and process evidence they collect on Internet-based crimes.

Hosted by the American Academy of Applied Forensics, which is based on the North Campus of the Central Piedmont Community College, the training covers various aspects of Internet investigation, including detection and prevention of Internet-based crimes, social networking sites, bulletin boards and newsgroups, instant messaging and chat, and undercover operations.

It also covers how Vere Software's WebCase product strengthens online evidence collection and its legal defensibility. "A screen shot or video capture can be challenged in court," said Todd Shipley, Vere Software President and CEO, who will present the material. "This course trains investigators on how to properly recognize, document and preserve evidence they find while investigating crime on the Internet."

Members of gang and narcotics investigative units; identity theft, fraud and other high tech crimes task forces; Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigators; and other disciplines will benefit.

"Law enforcement officers whose job includes collecting evidence from online sources will find this course advancing their skills and improving the quality of their findings," said Steve Hickey, lead computer forensics instructor for the AAAF.

Law enforcement is a primary user group, but WebCase—and the training—is useful to many different vertical markets, including private investigators and professionals within the human resources, insurance and financial fields.
