It was an up-and-down week for the Amador Valley boys’ volleyball team the week of April 8.

The week started with a 3-2 loss to Livermore as the Dons were missing some key players. Highlights came from Nick Nayak (16 kills, 14 digs), Aidan Husejnovic (14 kills), Ryan Bury (13 kills, 14 digs) and Aidan Lam (42 assists).

From there everything went great for the Dons, as they rebounded with a 25-19, 17-25, 27-25, 25-13 win over San Ramon Valley on Senior Night at Amador.

Highlights were from Max Riter (18 kills), Aidan Lam (30 assists, 14 service points), Bury (5 kills, 8 service points), Husejnovic (5 kills) and Nayak (3 blocks).

Then on the weekend, Amador captured the title of the Falcon Invite Tournament at Foothill, going 5-0 And beating Castro Valley in the finals.

Riter led the team with key kills, earning tournament MVP.

Ryan Yu stepped in as setter due to injuries and illnesses and had a phenomenal tournament. Parker Brookhart, Husejnovic, Nayak and Ryder Kuckien all made outstanding plays throughout the tournament.

Foothill volleyball

The Falcons kept their unbeaten EBAL season going with a pair of wins.

Foothill started the week with a 3-0 sweep of Dublin. Highlights came from Yun Bae (14 assists, 9 kills, 7 service points), Casey Collins (9 kills, 7 service points, 6 digs) and Kayan Vohra (7 kills, 3 blocks).

Next came a thrilling 26-24, 26-24, 35-33 win over Livermore. The Falcons got great plays from Josh Salonga, Noah Mitzenmacher and Cameron Hitchan.

Then in their invitational, the Falcons fell in the semifinals to Castro Valley. Four seniors — Vohra, Mitzenmacher, Collins and Caden Stedman — played well.

Amador Valley baseball

The Dons did something no one else has been able to do this year, handing Granada its first loss of the season when they beat them 5-2 on April 10.

Matthew Foley went the distance on the hill, allowing only two earned runs and six hits.

Aaron Solomon had two hits, one double and drove in a pair. Kyle Barbera had two hits, one a double, and drove in a run.

Later in the week, the Dons fell 8-2 to the Mats.

Amador got a good showing from starting pitcher Jason Alonso who went four innings, allowing three hits and a pair of runs. Brennan Baptist pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs, hits or walks.

On the hitting side, Amador had five players get at least a hit in Solomon, DJ Van Fleet, Alekh Shah and Foley. Barbera posted two hits for the Dons.

Foothill boys’ lacrosse

The Falcons went on the road and came away with a 17-5 win over Dougherty Valley.

Leading the scoring were junior AJ Becker with four goals, junior Darrin Lau with three goals and senior Wyatt Lam with three. Sophomore Ethan Lam and senior Tyler Walsh each had one score.

Freshmen Grady DeMichiel, James Moira, Aaden Lee and Karter Williams each put one on the board.

Graham Zander went coast-to-coast from his defensive spot for his first goal of the season.

Solid defense by seniors Zander, Jake Patterson and Josh Taylor, and strong performances by goalies Alex Morgan and Aden Lane kept the Wildcats at bay all night.

Foothill softball

The Falcons went 2-1 on the week, beating Monte Vista and Carondelet and losing to California.

In the win over Monte Vista, Sophia Burdick, Jordan McCafferty, Kaycie Burdick, Marissa Anderson, Ellie Novitske and Alexia Sponsell all had multi-hit games.

Anderson had a double, home run, and drove in four. Kaycie Burdick drove in a pair, as did Sponsell, who also had a home run. McCafferty also drove in a run.

Paige Bennett got the win in the circle, allowing only one hit and striking out three in five innings.

In a 12-2 win over Carondelet, Kaycie Burdick had a double, a home run and drove in three. Kayla Springer had a solo shot, and Sophia Burdick added a pair of hits.

In the 8-7 loss to Cal, Kaycie Burdick had another home run, a double and drove in a pair. Springer added another home run and drove in three.

McCafferty had three hits and drove in a run, with Novitske adding three hits, and Amanda Bilter chipping in with a pair of hits.
