Former Additional Secy Shahryar ZR Iqbal's namaz-e-janaza Saturday

The funeral of former government secretary Shahryar ZR Iqbal will be held on Saturday after his body is brought back to Dhaka.

He passed away in Canada's Toronto on Jul 15.

His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Mohammadpur's Baitus Salam Jam-e Masjid after noon prayers, his family said in a statement.  

He will then be buried at Dhaka's Azimpur Graveyard. 

An administration cadre of the 1964 civil service batch, Iqbal retired as additional secretary of the Ministry of Information.

He began his career as a magistrate in Moulvibazar, and later worked as assistant private secretary to President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman until his 1975 assassination.

He then served as first manager administration of BIMAN Bangladesh Airlines, managing director of Film Development Corporation, directorate general of Bangladesh Television and assistant high commissioner in Birmingham.

Husband to late professor Khadija Rahman, Iqbal is survived by his children Zeenat Rahman and Tausif Rahman.
