Eight Palestinians dead, 540 wounded in Trump move protests - ministry

GAZA, Dec 17 (KUNA) -- A total eight Palestinians were killed and another 540 others injured in Gaza amid tension in the wake of the US administration's move to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the Palestinian government said on Sunday.
The numbers include 485 adult males, 47 children (including a six-month-old toddler) and eight women, Ministry of Health spokesman Ashraf Al-Qudra said in a statement, while those hurt were described as suffering mid to critical scale injuries.
Medical teams provided on-field healthcare to 400 Palestinians, who suffered tear gas asphyxiation, some of whom were medical staff themselves and others, journalists.
Furthermore, the spokesman said Israeli forces shot at 14 ambulances (including seven belonging to the Palestinian Red Crescent) leading to severe damage to the vehicles and preventing the staff, who suffered tear gas suffocation as a result, from carrying out their role.
Rallies across Palestinian territories, which have been ongoing since the US announced it would relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv on December 7, have turned violent as Israeli forces have moved to quell the protests. (end) wab.sd
