The National Weather Service has revised the forecast for the Jamestown area for Friday into Saturday, with about four inches of snow expected by Saturday morning, according to Ken Simosko, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Bismarck.

Simosko said the Jamestown area should expect a light snow for the rest of Friday afternoon, with the heaviest snow bands moving through northwest of Jamestown, between Harvey and Carrington.

A winter storm warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Saturday for Stutsman, Sheridan, Wells, Foster and Kidder counties, according to the National Weather Service. Snow accumulations in this area could be four to six inches and winds could gust up to 45 mph, causing blowing snow and drifting, making travel difficult. The area could also receive some freezing rain, making roads slippery as well.

The weather forecasts issued earlier on Friday and Thursday night called for up to a foot of snow.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation issued no travel advisories for central North Dakota including the Bismarck area earlier Friday.

Jamestown Public Schools and many other schools in the area called off classes and Alfred Dickey Public Library and South Central Human Service Center are closed for the day.

Saturday’s weather forecast calls for cloudy conditions with another chance of snow on Saturday night changing to rain mixed with snow on Sunday.
