Fraudster’s Puerto Rico scheme landed him on phone with Ellen DeGeneres, in prison for 10 years: report

A Coral Gables man — wanted in Orange and Seminole counties on separate charges — was sentenced to 10 years in prison and ordered to pay $1.5 million in restitution for wire fraud, according to a report from by the Miami Herald.

Emilio Vazquez, 47, violated his 15-year probation by moving out Orange County and also had a warrant on charges of grand theft and uttering a forged instrument dating back to 2013 in Seminole, the newspaper reported.

The fraud that landed Vazquez in prison this time involved bad checks for a warehouse and charter flights, as well as making a $2 million pledge toward Hurricane Maria recovery during a benefit concert, the report states.

The bad checks — and phony pledge — were made using the name “Emilion Serralles” and Ellen DeGeneres spoke to him on Facetime, the report states.
