Leakers Will Do End Run on Scaramucci

Efforts to Plug Leaks are Doomed to Fail

WASHINGTON, D.C. , USA, July 27, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci's efforts to plug leaks are doomed to fail because they are a product of the chaos in the White House, according to veteran White House correspondent Llewellyn King.

In a derisive column, distributed Thursday by InsideSources, King says the White House "leaks for personal reasons. It leaks for patriotic reasons. It leaks out of frustration. And it leaks because no one is in charge administratively: too many assistants -- including Scaramucci -- are reporting directly to the president, eschewing the line of command which normally flows through the chief of staff and the national security adviser. With Scaramucci on the loose, Reince Priebus is chief of staff in title only: a male nipple."

King says in the column that leaking is as old as journalism but modern technology has made it easier, and that this is a problem primarily when it concerns national security. Scaramucci's effort is to end embarrassment.

King, who is host and executive producer of "White House Chronicle" on PBS and other outlets, describes the Trump White House as "this seething hive of fear and ambition, this policy free for all, this scarcely controlled chaos, this gyre of half-formed purposes." In that environment, he says, the leaking will not stop

In his experience of covering Washington and presidents since Richard Nixon, King says, "Scaramucci nosing around, casting doubt on everyone, the leaking might accelerate but will more devious: tell a junior to tell a friend to tell a reporter, rather than telling the reporter something directly. Email and telephones will be eschewed or used with great care."

King suggests that Scaramucci calm the chaos and fix the communications, if he wants the leaks to dry up.

"White House Chronicle" is a weekly news and public affairs program, now in its 20th year on PBS. The program airs nationwide on some 200 PBS and public, educational and government access (PEG) stations, and the commercial AMG TV Network. It airs worldwide on Voice of America Television and Radio. An audio version of the program airs three times weekends on SiriusXM Radio's P.O.T.U.S. (Politics of the United States), Channel 124.
