Broome County Emergency Services officials say the county Sheriff’s office and New York State Police have officers present at Susquehanna Valley Schools to make students and staff feel secure following reports on social media indicating a threat.

The district says in a statement “we do not believe this to be a credible threat against our district or any of our schools”

The district said the early indications are the information was either generated or shared from an address possibly in eastern Broome County. The School Resource Officer, administrators and law enforcement are working together to determine just where the threat on social media platforms was being originated.

The shared school threat on social media was in the form of a meme and did not indicate a threat toward any specific district or school.

Officials say, in an abundance of caution, added police presence would be at the campuses today as the district continues to work with authorities on the matter.

Whitney Point Schools also called in extra police resources as a precaution but said no threat had been made to that district.
