THROW OUT YOUR JACK DANIELS AND PICK UP A CIGAR: IT’S TENNESSEE HATE WEEK

Tennessee Hate Week

By WVUA 23 Reporter Amanda Hull

The third Saturday in October is always the Alabama-Tennessee game. Students on the University of Alabama’s campus know the week before as Tennessee Hate Week.

The No. 1 Crimson Tide is facing off against unranked Tennessee this Saturday in Bryant-Denny Stadium at 8 p.m.

Their reasoning might be dubious, but students at Alabama were more than happy to elaborate on the Tennessee hate.

“Personally, I’m from here and I’ve grown up watching Alabama football and I don’t know. No one likes orange here,” said student Cierra Murray.

Jami Thames and Layne Lightfoot said the reasons aren’t complicated.

“I hate Tennessee because their colors are gross,” said Thames. “It’s like that throw up in a pumpkin orange.”

Sometimes it’s even a bit of self-loathing

“I’m from Tennessee and I hate Tennessee” said Lightfoot.

The last time Tennessee beat Alabama in football was in 2006. That is 13 straight years of Alabama wins, but this rivalry isn’t dying anytime soon.

So get those cigars ready for Saturday.
