Avid viewers of award-winning quiz show The Chase said they were left having flashbacks after one contestant's performance.

Valerie, a retired nurse from Coventry, gave fans at home a blast from the past as she passed on a lot of questions during her cash builder.

The 77-year-old struggled to bank more than £1,000, making some think of a viral video from 2018.

Sharon from Wolverhampton, who was a massive Harry Potter fan, had hopes of going to Florida if she won big, but unfortunately her struggles on the opening round soon became a social media meme as she 'passed' on nearly every single question.

She quickly became an internet sensation with 13 passes, with the clip of her going viral two years ago, people loving her tatics.

The 21-year-old took a grand to the table against The Vixen but was caught three spaces from home.

And Valerie completed the curse, also being caught by chaser Paul Sinha.

Taking to Twitter, @stefansro said: " Flashbacks of pass girl."

@FeathersDaMan said: " Pass! [laughing emoji]"

@DrSkyrme said: " Dear me. Valerie completely stacked it."

@Cavalcadewhimsy said: " Taxi for Val."

And Valerie will be instantly regretting it as her remaining teammates, Lindsay and Johnny, played for £80,000, and won it between them.

The Sinnerman said: "Credit, where credit is due. Life changing amount of money."

Why we write trending stories

The Liverpool Echo writes several stories a day on well known personalities or popular TV shows for instance.

They are often on subjects that get people talking on social media about a specific moment they've seen or heard, which is why we call them trending stories.

While we know they are among the most popular stories we produce, they can also receive negative feedback in our comments so we have created this Factbox to respond to some of the most common points raised.

This isn't real news / real journalism

Trending news is as real as any other subject we cover. Our stories are written by trained and experienced journalists, responding quickly to events.

We understand they are not for everyone and we have lots of stories on other topics for our audience to read.

It's nothing to do with Liverpool

A lot of stories we do have nothing to do with Liverpool on the face of it. However that does not mean people from Liverpool are not interested in the subject, TV show or person and enjoy reading about them.

No-one reads this type of story

We use data to help us decide what to write about. Our data shows us how popular trending stories are. What's more, they are very popular among our most loyal audience - people who visit our website more than 15 times a month.
