North Korea warns US of ‘crisis beyond control’

Seoul, May 2 (EFE).- North Korea on Sunday warned the United States that it will face a “crisis beyond control” as it lashed out at President Joe Biden through state media for his tone against the Pyongyang regime.

The regime’s warning came through Kwon Jong-gun, director general of the Department of US Affairs of the North Korean foreign ministry, who released a statement through the state KCNA news agency.

The statement came in response to Biden’s first address before the Congress on Wednesday, in which he promised to work with his allies to address the “serious threat” posed by North Korea by employing “diplomacy and stern deterrence.”

Kwon said that Biden’s comments were a “big blunder” which made Washington’s new policy toward Pyongyang clear and now the regime will be “compelled to press for corresponding measures, and with time the US will find itself in a very grave situation.”

The official added that the US “will face worse and worse crisis beyond control in the near future” if it approaches Pyongyang holding on to an “outdated policy from Cold War-minded perspective.”

Biden’s coming to power, following his predecessor Donald Trump’s failed denuclearization talks, has been marked by a harsher tone against the regime led by Kim Jong-un.

The North Korean foreign ministry issued another statement on Sunday accusing the US of insulting the “dignity of our supreme leadership” for denouncing the regime’s human rights abuses.

North Korea has raised its tone against the US following Biden’s appointment, and conducted two missile tests in March, while Washington reviewed its strategy in dealing with Pyongyang. EFE
