Meghan Markle will turn 40 next week, a milestone birthday worthy of a big celebration.

The Duchess of Sussex has not publicly revealed how she will mark her big day, but many have speculated that whatever she does she will be with her nearest and dearest.

The mum-of-two has reportedly hired Colin Cowie, Oprah Winfrey’s party planner, for a birthday bash next week at her and Prince Harry ’s £11million mansion in Santa Barbara, California.

It is expected to be a low-key affair on their sprawling £11million property with enough privacy to entertain their guests with food and drink sourced from local businesses.

Prince Harry posted this picture to the now-inactive Sussex Royal Instagram account for Meghan's 38th birthday (

A source said: “Megan wants a small gathering. About 65 people are invited, including her closest friends and family. Colin was recommended to her by Oprah who always puts on fabulous parties.”

Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, believes the party would be at their mansion rather than somewhere in the public eye.

Reported in The Sun, the royal expert said: "But it will perhaps be at home rather than in a restaurant - as they have wonderful grounds in which to give a party, and as they are intent on their privacy it would be inviting trouble to have it in a public venue."

She added that Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King are likely to be two famous pals that would attend.

In 2016, Meghan left a clue on what her birthday means to her.

On her now-deleted lifestyle website The Tig, she wrote: “My mom has always said that birthdays are your own personal New Year.

"Your own chance to make resolutions just for yourself and what you prognosticate for your year ahead."

The Duchess' previous birthdays have been marked in very different ways.

For Meghan's 36th, she and Prince Harry went to Botswana to carry out conservation work with the charity Elephants Without Borders.

Meghan celebrated her 37th birthday - her first as a Duchess - while she attended the wedding of Prince Harry's friends Charlie van Straubenzee and Daisy Jenks.

On her next birthday, the Duke shared a post on their now-inactive Sussex Royal Instagram of Meghan from their royal tour of Tonga

The caption read: "Wishing HRH The Duchess of Sussex a very Happy Birthday. 'Happy Birthday to my amazing wife. Thank you for joining me on this adventure!' - Love, H."

It was reported at the time that the couple along with little Archie spent the day at home at Frogmore Cottage before jetting off to Ibiza for a private family holiday.

Meghan's celebration last year was quiet as she and Harry had just moved into their impressive California mansion.

However the Duchess chooses to celebrate, it will be a much quieter affair compared to her baby shower in 2019.

Meghan flew to New York for a star-studded baby shower in New York at the exclusive The Mark hotel with her mum Doria Ragland as well as A-list stars Serena Williams and Amal Clooney attending.
