Pittsburgh Public Schools will be on a modified lockdown Friday after recent threats of possible violence against schools were shared on social media, the district announced Thursday evening. The district said this is a precautionary measure and all schools, center programs, early childhood and early head start classrooms will be on the modified lockdown. All athletics will be canceled on Friday as well. A modified lockdown means that students will remain inside the building all day and only visitors with a prior appointment are permitted to enter the building, the district said. The district said school police will continue working with local law enforcement to assist in identifying the origin of the threats. The district also reminded families that Friday is a half-day for students.
