One of BBC Radio 1's biggest rising stars has shared a horrifying picture of his face following a hair transplant.

Dean McCullough, who used to present the lunchtime radio slot from Monday to Thursday from 1pm to 3:30pm, took to TikTok to share a snap of his face. However, fans were stunned as they saw the procedure had left his face completely swollen.

As well as this, the radio host's eyes were particularly affected, to the point where his left eye almost looked completely shut. But Dean, 32, assured fans that the swelling was "normal" for the procedure and that it would go down in time.

McCullough, who stood in for regular presenter Greg James on his Breakfast Show earlier in the year, recognised that his eye looked particularly bad. He joked that it had been forced shut and now looked like a slit.

In a video uploaded to his social media platforms in which he shared some shots of his face, Dean explained: "Day 3 of my hair transplant journey and I'm trusting the process. Zero pain or major discomfort and apparently the swelling is normal."

As well as this, Dean had a crack of a joke, as he admitted he was in his "Avatar era" with his swollen look. Fans of the star were quick to jump into his comments section to express their concerns and shock at the snaps he uploaded.

One fan was left aghast at the picture: "Omg it's Dean! I didn't even recognise you!"

A second user was equally as bemused, admitting: "The fact I thought, 'Why do I know his voice?' until I read your name." After one worried account asked if he could still see, Dean himself responded: "My right eye is like a slit!"

Dean has been making more and more appearances on TV, having been a regular guest on Big Brother's spin-off show Late and Live. Having been a part of the show several times over the course of the civilian series, he sparked rumours that he was going to go into the House himself on the celebrity version, although this did not eventually materialise.

Dean now hosts the early breakfast show on BBC Radio 1

Earlier this year, Dean was announced as the newest replacement for Arielle Free after she decided to leave the station. McCullough took over from Free and now hosts the early breakfast show - a shift from his original slot of having a weekend show, before being bumped up into the weekday rota.

Speaking about the new role at the time, Dean beamed: "I’m really excited to be taking over the reins from the amazing Arielle Free. The Early Breakfast crew are the best listeners at Radio 1 - I’m really excited to get stuck in and wake up the nation every morning."
