Acting on a tip from a shopper, Secaucus police arrested a man rummaging through a stolen SUV Saturday, Police Chief Dennis Miller said.
Brian Gilliam, 40, of Jersey City, was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle and released, pending his appearance in court. He arrested at the parking lot outside Walmart, at 400 Park Plaza Dr. A caller had told police a man was acting suspicious and possibly engaging in nefarious activity.
Secaucus police detectives saw Gilliam going in and out of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler and they found it was stolen from New York May 6.
“The arrest is a testament that when the police and public collaboratively work together, we can curtail criminal activity,” Miller said. “The Secaucus Police Department will respond to and investigate all reports of criminal activity and proactively investigate them.”
