Nebraska honors Greg Sharpe with radio booth dedication at Memorial Stadium
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Nebraska Athletic Director Troy Dannen honored longtime broadcaster Greg Sharpe on Wednesday by naming the Memorial Stadium radio booth after him.
“And now we have a legend of legend’s name on the radio booth,” Dannen said as he surprised the “Voice of the Huskers” with the Greg Sharpe Radio Booth dedication.
“I wish there was something above ‘thank you’ to tell you but that’s the best I can do right now,” Sharpe said.
With his wife, Amy, and kids by his side he posed for photos in the radio booth dedicated to him.
“What this university, what Troy, what the staff has done for me in the last six months I can’t tell you how thankful I am to be here,” Sharpe said.
Also on the wall, the text of part of Sharpe’s animated play-by-play call from the final play of Nebraska’s 27-24 win over Northwestern from Nov. 2, 2013.
Sharpe is currently in palliative care as he battles pancreatic cancer, a diagnosis he received in March 2024 and shared publicly in April. Despite his health, Sharpe announced multiple games during Nebraska’s 2024 season.
Greg Sharpe has served Nebraska Athletics and the Huskers Radio Network as a senior announcer, host and producer since 2008. He was recently named the 2024 Nebraska Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association.
