Red-Tail hosting nature events
As the temperature climbs, it’s time to get outdoors.
Red-Tail Land Conservancy will host several workshops in the coming months, including a Seed Swap & Giveaway on Saturday, March 15, at Minnetrista Museum and Gardens in Muncie.
The seed swap and giveaway will run from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. There will be free seed packets, demonstrations, interactive activities and experts to offer guidance.

Learn about art
The Ball State University Arts Alive! Series will continue next week with a presentation by artist Justin Favela at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Sursa Performance Hall.
Favela, a multidisciplinary artist, will discuss large-scale installations and sculptures that explore various themes. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at El Museo del Barrio in New York and the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis.
“Justin Favela’s work offers a vibrant exploration of culture and identity,” said Seth Beckman, dean of BSU’s College of Fine Arts. “We’re pleased to share this dynamic artistic experience with the community.”

On display
Arts Place’s Blackford County Arts Center is hosting the Regional Student Art Exhibit by Beta Xi Chapter of Tri Kappa in Hartford City featuring art from area students.
The exhibit, which runs through April 10, includes pieces from students at Blackford Junior-Senior High School, Bluffton High School and Southern Wells High School. It is a juried show, with awards to be presented at a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 10.
The facility will also host its spring piano lab for second through fourth graders beginning March 19. Piano labs are held at 7 p.m. each Wednesday through April 23. Students will be loaned a keyboard to take home for additional practice time. The registration fee is $30.
The art center is open from 1 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at 107 W. Washington St., Hartford City.
Preparing for 250th
Blackford County is getting ready for the semiquincentennial.
Blackford County Historian Joe Castelo is organizing a coordinating committee to help with planning events for the celebration of the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026.
Organizations are asked to contact the coordinating committee with their project proposals by emailing u.s.250blackfordco@gmail.com. The committee will work to help, advise and assist in scheduling and carrying out events.
Free class offered
Opportunities for anyone to take part in yoga are coming up.
Minnetrista will host a Yoga is for EveryBody free community class from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22. It will be in the Indiana Room in the facility’s main building.
The classes are designed to be a “celebration of unity and mindfulness” with instructor Che’Reese Anderson.
The facility is also hosting painting and hot glass workshops. Bob Ross painting workshops are scheduled for 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 19; 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 20; 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 26; 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 28; and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 29. Participants will learn one of Ross’s signature techniques. Hot glass workshops to create glass eggs are scheduled for 9, 10 and 11 a.m. and noon on Saturday, March 15.

Programs scheduled
Charles W. Brown Planetarium at Ball State University will host a series of programs.
The events in March include the final showings of Destination Mars, an exploration of efforts toward human travel to the red planet.
Destination Mars is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Fridays, March 14 and 21, and Saturdays, March 15 and 22.

ASTRONAUT — Experiencing a rocket launch from the perspective of an astronaut at 5 p.m. Fridays, March 14 and 21, and Saturdays, March 15 and 22.

Leadership training offered
Shafer Leadership Academy is offering its Emergence: Personal Foundations of Effective Leadership program beginning April 3.
The five-week course is designed to help refine leadership style, develop confidence and gain practical tools to lead effectively in businesses, nonprofit organizations and communities.

Tickets on sale
Tickets are on sale for several upcoming concerts at the new Gas City Performing Arts Center.
The lineup at the arts center includes An Evening with Amy Grant on Saturday, April 12, Night Ranger on Saturday, April 26, and Blippi: Join the Band Tour on Tuesday, May 13. Tickets for all three are on sale at gascitypac.com.
Cooper to perform
Tickets are on sale for Alice Cooper’s performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Ball State University’s Emens Auditorium.

Camps scheduled
Indiana State Police has announced its dates and locations for its summer camps, including several in Anderson.
Pioneer Camps, which are by recommendation only, will be held for 11 through 14 year olds in June, with one set for June 16 through 19 at Mounds State Park in Anderson.
Other camps in Anderson include a Law Camp for sixth, seventh and eighth graders will be held June 29 through July 2 and a Career Camp for high school students from June 22 through 28. Shield Project is scheduled for June 4 through 8 at Anderson University.

Applications open
Applications are open for hunters to apply for spring turkey reserved hunts.
Those interested can apply at gooutdoorsin.com. Applicants must have a valid hunting license.
The deadline is Sunday, March 16.
Accepting applications
Indiana Donor Network Foundation is accepting applications for educational scholarships.
The scholarships are open to immediate family members of Indiana residents who were organ, tissue or cornea donors, living donors, transplant recipients and Hoosiers waiting for transplants.
Applications are available online at indianadonornetwork.org/scholarships. The deadline is March 17.
Program available
Indiana State Department of Agriculture is offering a free soil sampling opportunity.
The program is open to row crop fields, pastures, hay and specialty crops. Eligible landowners will be prioritized by acreage (100 acres or fewer) and whether the field have been sampled previously or regularly.
Those interested in the program can sign up at in.gov/isda. The deadline is Friday, April 4.
