The Monadnock Conservancy will host “Stories About This Place” on Friday, March 28, at the Peterborough Town House, 1 Grove St. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the program will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The free, in-person event is open to the public.
Now in its 11th year, the event will feature local speakers sharing personal stories about living and working in the Monadnock region. This year’s speakers include journalist and author Paul Hertneky, Angelika Fretzen, chief operating officer of the Wyss Institute at Harvard University; Chick Colony, owner of Harrisville Designs; and Bruce Wooster, owner of Picadilly Farm. Guitarist and composer David Domenick will provide music.
“Stories 2025 is shaping up to be our best program yet. We have award-winning authors, impactful local professionals and gorgeous music, all free for our community,” stated Martin Royle, communications and marketing director for the Monadnock Conservancy.
Fretzen, a chemist by training, oversees the Wyss Institute’s efforts to develop medical technologies in therapeutics, diagnostics and sustainability. She completed her doctorate in Switzerland and her postdoctoral research at Harvard University.
Hertneky has written for the Boston Globe, NBC News, National Public Radio and other outlets. His work focuses on culture, food, the environment and travel. He was nominated for two James Beard Awards and is the author of "Rust Belt Boy: Stories of an American Childhood." He teaches at Chatham University.
Colony, a lifelong Harrisville resident, founded Harrisville Designs to sustain the town’s textile industry and offer local employment. He was the first chairman of Inherit New Hampshire, now the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance, and served on the state’s Land and Community Heritage Investment Program board.
Wooster and his wife Jenny own Picadilly Farm, a 71-acre certified organic farm supplying local grocery stores, including the Monadnock Food Co-op and the Brattleboro Food Co-op.
Domenick, a fingerstyle acoustic guitarist based in southern Vermont, performs throughout New England and the Northeast.
