Circana and The Entertainment Software Association of Canada have revealed the best-selling games in Canada for January and February 2025.
Read on for both months’ respective lists. Note that only physical sales for Nintendo and 2K games are counted here, as these companies don’t share digital data with Circana.
January 2025
- Call of Duty Black Ops 6 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (PS5, PC)
- NHL 25 (PS5, Xbox Series X/S)
- Donkey Kong Country Returns HD (Nintendo Switch)
- EA Sports FC25 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (PS5, PC)
- Minecraft (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, macOS, tvOS)
- Super Mario Party Jamboree (Nintendo Switch)
- Hogwarts Legacy (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC)
- Madden NFL 25 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
It’s worth noting that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was primarily developed by California-based Treyarch but had assistance from Quebec City’s Beenox. Additionally, sports games NHL 25 and EA Sports FC 25 were both made by EA Vancouver.
Otherwise, nothing on the list is all that surprising. In particular, PS5 exclusives Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 no doubt got bumps from their PC ports that both launched this month. Meanwhile, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD was a new release this month entirely.
For context, here’s January’s top 10 list for the U.S., per Circana:
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Madden NFL 25 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (PS5, PC)
- EA Sports FC 25 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Minecraft (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, macOS, tvOS)
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (PS5, PC)
- EA Sports College Football 25 (PS5, Xbox Series X/S)
- Donkey Kong Country Returns HD (Nintendo Switch)
- Hogwarts Legacy (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC)
- Sonic x Shadow Generations (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC)
Clearly, the list is pretty similar, with the exception of, as always, football being more popular over there versus hockey being bigger here. And as we’ve seen before, Nintendo games continue to perform comparatively better, with Donkey Kong Country Returns HD placing higher on our list and Super Mario Party Jamboree cracking ours but not the U.S.
February 2025
- Monster Hunter Wilds (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Civilization VII (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac)
- PGA Tour 2K25 (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- NBA 2K25 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS)
- Avowed (Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- NHL 25 (PS5, Xbox Series X/S)
- Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC)
- EA Sports FC 25 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Minecraft (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, macOS, tvOS)
Once again, not really any big surprises here. The Canadian-developed (or co-developed) games that charted in January, Call of Duty, NHL and EA Sports, all did so here as well. That said, another Canadian game joined the list this month: PGA Tour 2K25, the latest golf title from Lunenberg, Nova Scotia’s HB Studios. Otherwise, big releases like Monster Hunter Wilds, Civilization VII and Avowed making the list aren’t really surprising.
For context, here’s February’s top 10 list for the U.S., per Circana:
- Monster Hunter Wilds (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Kingdom Come: Deliverance II (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Civilization VII (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac)
- PGA Tour 2K25 (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- NBA 2K25 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS)
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Avowed (Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC)
- Grand Theft Auto V (PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Madden NFL 25 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
Once again, pretty similar lists. It’s interesting, though, that Kingdom Come: Deliverance II was so high in the U.S. and not even on our list at all. I guess Canadians love JRPGs more than we do Western Medieval ones.
