With players still suffering with illness, Kane Vincent-Young and Anthony Scully are both pushing for starts after coming off the bench against Grimsby.
Young midfielder Milton Oni remains a long-term absentee after suffering an ACL injury, in the opening weeks of the season.
Predicted line-ups:
Colchester United: Macey, Egbo, Flanagan, Kelleher, Iandolo, McDonnell, Read, Scully, Payne, Edwards, Taylor
Gillingham: Morris, Smith, Masterson, Gale, Clark, Williams, McKenzie, Hutton, Nevitt, Gbode, Morgan
Colchester United head coach Danny Cowley told CU-FC.COM:
"We ourselves have some challenges, for sure.
"For quite some time now, we've had some illness in the group and that obviously affected the group, going into the Bradford game and kind of carried it into Grimsby, on Friday night and we've come out of it with some more illness, unfortunately which has just been the cards that we've been dealt.
"We have to try to navigate through that as well as we can.

"We know that football doesn't care about excuses - I've been in football a long time and excuses have never won me anything.
"For us rather than see the challenge in the moment, we like to see the opportunity and that is that some players will have the opportunity to come in and contribute and make an impact and influence the team.
"We're going to need people to really step up, because we are stretched."
Head to head
Colchester United defender Tom Flanagan is set to return to his former club Gillingham, where he played 15 games on loan from MK Dons in the 2012-13 season.

He is set to come up against promising teenage striker Jimmy-Jay Morgan, who has made 12 appearances for the Gills, scoring once, since joining them on loan from Premier League club Chelsea in January.
Gillingham boss Gareth Ainsworth told BBC Radio Kent:
“We’ve got a great pitch at home, we’ve got a fantastic fanbase at home and on Tuesday, I’m hoping we can put on a great performance in what will be a tough game against Colchester, who are flying high in the league.
“I want to see that Rainham End going mental and trying to suck that ball into the goal, because I know what it’s like against them.
“We’re all together in this.”
Last meeting
Goals from Lyle Taylor and John Kymani Gordon secured Colchester a 2-0 win over Gillingham when the two sides met at the JobServe Community Stadium, on Boxing Day.
