Billy Gilmour is proving an 'extraordinary' signing for Napoli after settling into Serie A life.

The former Chelsea and Brighton midfielder - who starred as a youth at Rangers before his move south of the border - traded the English Premier League for Naples in the summer and after an adjusting period of minutes here and there and the odd run in the team he has now started the last four games including an assist in the last outing against AC Milan.

Scotland colleague Scott McTominay joined him at Napoli under Antonio Conte and he's been grabbing all the headlines after a stunning first season to date after swapping Manchester United for Italy. But pal Gilmour is also proving a real hit and former Fiorentina and Rangers defender Lorenzo Amoruso has waxed lyrical over the midfielder.

He believes after that initial settling in period and adjusting to the different style of football in Italy's top flight and the EPL, the midfielder is now starting to show his best with excellent performances for his title-chasing team.

Speaking to Radio Marte, during 'Marte Sport Live' Amoruso said: "As for Gilmour's excellent performance now, I think that the time it takes to integrate can be different depending on the player.

"Antonio knew Billy, perhaps the player took a little longer to understand the Italian championship which is very different from the others and from the British ones, not because no one is better or worse, but the way of playing is different.

"It is a football evolution very different from other realities. For example, in England they pay much less attention to the defensive phase and for this reason English football is more spectacular.

"In Italy, this does not happen, there is a lot of attention to the defenders and midfielders from a tactical point of view. The Scotsman is having an excellent second part of the season and is proving to be an extraordinary player."

Next up for Gilmour and Co is a tough away day at Champions League chasing Bolgona, who currently sit fourth.

Napoli are second and trailing leaders Inter Milan by three points with eight league fixtures left to play this term.
