Names of 4 Mississippi law enforcement officers to be added to national memorial
BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - The names of four Mississippi law enforcement officers will be among the 345 names that will be engraved on the National Law Enforcers Memorial Wall in Washington, DC, this year.
Two of the law enforcement officers who will be honored, Jeremy Malone and Robert Daffin Jr., worked for the George County Sheriff’s Department.
The other officers who will be honored are Michael Griffin, who worked for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, and Troy Floyd, who worked for the Summit Police Department.
Jeremy Malone
Deputy Malone lost his life in the line of duty on January 4, 2024.
During a traffic stop on Highway 98, authorities said Malone was shot and killed while approaching a vehicle.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations said the suspect in the murder of Deputy Malone later died from a self-inflicted gun wound.

Loved ones described Malone as a devoted team member, husband, and father of three.

Governor Tate Reeves attended Malone’s funeral service.
“The entire state of Mississippi is indebted to him,” Reeves said in 2024.
Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter gave Deputy Malone’s eulogy. Ledbetter said Malone never mistreated anyone.
Robert Daffin Jr.
Deputy Robert “Bobby” Daffin Jr. died on August 12, 2021, after battling COVID-19.
Daffin was 37 years old.

At the time of Daffin’s death then George County Sheriff Keith Havard said Deputy Daffin was more than simply a co-worker.
“The fact that he had a young daughter, is a father to a young daughter, it is heartbreaking,” said Havard.

Daffin served the community as a law enforcement officer for about 14 years.
Michael Griffin
Michael “Mike” Griffin, who was a retired Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper and a sworn Law Enforcement Officer with the Department of Public Safety, was killed on September 4, 2023.

Griffin was killed after he stopped to help with a two-vehicle crash on Highway 6 in Panola County.
Mississippi Highway Patrol said Griffin stopped to check on one of the drivers when the vehicle rolled on top of him.
Griffin was pronounced dead on the scene.
Troy Floyd
Troy Floyd lost his life in the line of duty on August 8, 2024.
Officials said a 25-year-old shot Floyd at a safety checkpoint in Summit.

Fellow officers said Floyd is remembered as committed and dedicated to the badge.
