Huddersfield Town interim head coach Jon Worthington insists his side are “definitely not letting go” of their aim to be promoted despite their recent setbacks.
The Terriers have registered consecutive defeats since the international break, with a 4-0 loss at Charlton Athletic on Saturday followed up with a 1-0 defeat at Lincoln City on Tuesday evening.
The results leave the Terriers outside of the League One play-off places in eighth position, with Worthington’s side two points adrift of sixth-placed Bolton Wanderers with seven games of their campaign remaining.
Town have now lost six of their last eight matches. Ddiscussing his side’s play-off push, Worthington told BBC Radio Leeds: “I think there’s always going to be a pressure with the teams that are in and around it.
“The last two results have certainly not helped that, but there’s still points to play for, home games to come, and it’s an aim that we’re definitely not letting go [of], that’s for sure.
“We’re at the results end and we need results and we’ve not got them. That’s my job as well, to lift them, to drive them, to push them, and I can tell you for certain, I won’t be giving up on it.”
The Terriers will look to get back on track on Saturday when they take on 17th-placed Mansfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The Stags halted a lengthy downturn in form with back-to-back victories either side of the international break, but head into Saturday's clash off the back of a 2-1 home defeat to Charlton Athletic in midweek.
Worthington opted to make four alterations to his side for Tuesday’s defeat, and insisted that he would need to continue to freshen the team up through a busy run of fixtures, adding: “I was pleased with the changes, but ultimately with the run-in that we’ve got and the number of games, that is going to be the nature over this period of time.”
