It’s been four years since we got a new Nintendo Switch model in the shape of the gorgeous OLED version, and it’s finally time for the Switch 2.
The new console comes with a whole host of upgrades compared to the original, including a larger 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen with HDR and 120Hz refresh rate. There’s also 256GB storage, new GameChat feature, optional webcam, bigger and magnetic Joy-Cons and more.
The console will go on sale on 5 June with pre-orders officially starting on 8 April in the UK (though some retailers have seemingly jumped the gun).
Pre-orders in the US are now delayed due to Trump’s tariffs so won’t take place on the planned date of 9 April.
In a statement sent to The Verge, Nintendo said it is “in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.”
The Switch 2 likely to sell out quickly and we’re already seeing some retailers in the UK state it’s out of stock. It’s unsurprising as the console is expected to sell millions of units and many will no doubt be buying to resell at a profit.
Priced from £395/$449 (or £429/$499 with Mario Kart World bundled) you’ll want to get your pre-order in as soon as possible and we know the best places to do that. Not only that, but we’ll also be hunting for the best deals as they become available.

Where to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 in the UK
There are already several places where you can (or will be able to) pre-order a Nintendo Switch 2.
The official Nintendo Store is the obvious place, though a system has been put in place to deter scalpers. As of 2 April you must have “purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership with a minimum of 12 months of paid membership and a minimum of 50 total gameplay hours.”
Invites will then be sent out via email first-come, first-served basis and will be valid for 72 hours.
However, UK pre-order links aren’t live, and the page quoted mentions the US and Canada, so this may be specific to those regions.
Amazon UK does have an invitation system for both the Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle. You simply need to be logged in and hit the ‘Request invite’ button. If successful, you’ll get notified by email.
The invite system is “To ensure that as many genuine customers as possible can buy this high-demand item, we sell it by invitation,” says Amazon.
Argos has pre-order pages live for the Switch 2 and customers will collect Nectar points as an incentive. You might see a sold out page like we did but it seems the consoles just aren’t ready to order just yet.

Very has pages for the Switch 2, but says ‘Unavailable’ at the time of writing.
EE has a live pre-order page for the Mario Kart World bundle and you can check-out and pay now to secure your console.
HMV also has a page where you can sign up to be notified about pre-orders.
Shopto is taking pre-orders for £0.01, with the actual price pending announcement. There’s a one-per-customer limit, given how high the demand for this product is.
Currys is also taking pre-orders in a sense, as you get to fill in your details and get a notification as soon as the handheld becomes available for purchase.
SimplyGames is offering pre-orders too, and you can register your interest quickly.
Smyths Toys is also offering a similar registration, so you can get info about the console as soon as it’s available.

Best Nintendo Switch 2 trade-in options
If you’re eyeing the new Nintendo Switch, you may also be considering trading in your old one. After all, you’ll have a new handheld to play on, and you may as well get some money by selling off your old one. Sure, you could head to eBay or Craigslist or some other platform, but you’ll likely get a better offer from a proper channel.
GameStop is offering up to $110 in store credit or $77 in cash, but it ultimately depends on the condition of your device is in. BackMarket is also open to taking in your old Nintendo Switch and offering good money for your console, so make sure to go through the process and see how much they offer. You can also try it out Decluttr, but they’re not offering a lot for the Switch.
Amazon also has a trade-in program for the Switch and the Switch Lite, and you can get up to $70 for it. Best Buy has a trade-in program too, and they’re offering up to $90 for the OLED version, but just $20 for the regular one.
