Liverpool are reportedly wanting more than the original £30m to sell defender Jarell Quansah to Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.
The centre-back position has proven to be a difficult area for the Magpies this season with attempts to sign Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi continuously falling short. As we head closer to the summer transfer window, Newcastle have been linked with an approach for Quansah.
The Reds' academy product has started to gain more exposure in the first team this season under Arne Slot and his performances suggest he is definitely one to watch in the future. Quansah has four years remaining on his contract at Anfield and thus Liverpool find themselves in a strong negotiating position.
Originally, it was understood that Liverpool would want £30m to sell the 22-year-old in the summer. However, Football Insider reports that they have since moved the goal posts and have now set an unknown price tag which is more than that sum.
Such a figure could make it impossible for Newcastle to complete a deal especially considering the unknown potential of the defender. It is understood that Slot has been impressed with the centre-back when he has been used this season and the plan is to implement him into the team regularly next season.
If this is the case, Newcastle will struggle to persuade Quansah to leave Anfield for St James' Park and may need to turn their attention to other targets ahead of the summer window opening. The Magpies return to Premier League action on Monday night when they visit relegation threatened Leicester City.
