Asheville radio station to receive national award for Helene coverage, relief efforts

A local radio station is being nationally honored for its service to the community in the catastrophic aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

iHeartMedia Asheville's WWNC-AM is set to receive the "Small Market Award" in the National Association of Broadcasters' 2025 Celebration of Service to America Awards.

The radio station is recognized for its widespread coverage and community service after Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina.

WWNC-AM served as a crucial lifeline for the region by providing critical information, connecting people and coordinating relief efforts despite limited resources and communication.

The Small Market Award will be presented to the station on June 10 in Washington, D.C.
