WEST RICHLAND, Wash. - Race fans experienced a weekend of high-speed thrills as the Tri-City Raceway hosted the 56th running of Bonney's TYM Apple Cup. Driver Zach Riehl claimed victory in Sunday's main event.
The 125-lap Apple Cup race capped off an exciting weekend of motorsports action, with Riehl navigating through multiple caution flags to secure the win. According to raceway officials, both spectator attendance and driver participation exceeded expectations for this early-season event.
"It was very successful with a good car count as good as anything on the West Coast," said Greg Waldon, Tri-City Raceway Promoter. "The spectator turnout was great. The weather cooperated. It was beautiful and warm and sunny. Unlike the other previous times we ran it, we've always had one day of rain or snow or a combination of all of it."
The favorable weather conditions marked a welcome change for the event, which has historically battled challenging spring weather patterns that sometimes include snow, rain, or both. This year's clear skies and warm temperatures contributed to the strong turnout and smooth race operations.
Drivers competed in various model cars throughout the weekend, showcasing different racing classes and styles for the enthusiastic crowd. While Riehl ultimately took the checkered flag, the event featured competitive racing throughout the field.
Waldon expressed optimism about the 2025 racing season at Tri-City Raceway, noting that the successful Apple Cup indicates a strong start to their schedule of events.
Race fans won't have to wait long for more action at the track. The raceway's next featured event will be the "Duel in the Desert" on May 24. This night race will showcase multiple car classifications and offer spectators another round of competitive racing.
The "Duel in the Desert" continues the raceway's tradition of hosting varied racing formats throughout the season, giving fans opportunities to see different racing styles and drivers compete on the popular track.
Fans can visit Tri-City Raceway's website or social media channels for more information about upcoming events.
