USA Hockey’s Bobby Sanguinetti speaks to Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Our hockey hero Bobby Sanguinetti spoke in Wilmington this morning as part of the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame luncheon.

Sanguinetti was a member of the USA olympic hockey team who participated in the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea. It was a position he said he always dreamed of being in, but never knew if he could get there.

The New Jersey native lives in Wilmington and plays professional hockey in Switzerland.

A 21st overall draft pick for the New York Rangers, Sanguinetti spent time on four NHL teams, including the Hurricanes, which brought him to the Port City.

Following his olympic debut, he shares the path of his journey that brought him to the world’s stage.

“You dream about it, but I think that’s where it ends,” Sanguinetti said. “You try to put the work in and get yourself to that point, but to be able to experience that, what I went through in February is awesome. Just walking out for the opening ceremony was great. That was that wow moment. You’re looking around and you grew up watching these events, to be a part of it and be surrounded by those athletes was just amazing.”

Sanguinetti says to all the kids who want to follow in his footsteps: just enjoy playing hockey for the love of the game.
