The Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, Elizabeth Sackey has been appointed as the chairperson of the Accra chapter of the Local Organizing Committee of the 2018 Africa Women’s Championship.

The 11-member committee include Sophia Korkor, Chief Superintendent Kwesi Ofori, Dr Prince Pamboe Emmanuel Clottey, Vivian Dougblor, Portia Tagoe, Grace Acheampong, Ivy Asamoah, Prince Obeng with GBC’s Benjamin Willie Graham as media officer.

The core mandate of the Venue Organization committee is to ensure a well-organized and smooth running of activities in Accra as one of two centres hosting the tournament.

Speaking during an inauguration ceremony at Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee of the 2018 Women’s AFCON, Freda Prempeh charged the members of the committee to execute their duties with perfection and ensure that Ghana hosts a successful tournament.

Freda Prempeh noted that preparations for the tournament are far advanced and called on the media to use their platforms to create awareness about the tournament and women football in the country.

“We have been working very hard behind the scenes. We are going to host 7 other countries joining the Black Stars. We are going to use two venues- The Accra Sports Stadium and Cape Coast Stadium. The four participating countries that will stay in Accra will use the Presec training pitch and the El Wak Stadium as their training pitch. The referees will be training at the Legon Sports Stadium. I can say that we’ve gone beyond 70 and 80 percent of the job done. We just have to put some little touches to what we’ve done so far”, she said.

The Vice President of the Normalization Committee, Lucy Quist assured the LOC of the committee’s unflinching support.

Ghana will host Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa, Zambia, Equatorial Guinea, Algeria and Mali for the 2018 Africa Women’s Championship. The tournament is slated for November 17, 2018 to December 1, 2018.
