Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has asked Morocco to join a three-country bid with Portugal to host the 2030 World Cup, Spanish El Pais newspaper reported yesterday.

The Spanish prime minister yesterday arrived morning in Rabat on a working visit during which he will meet with a number of Moroccan officials including King Mohammed V and Prime Minister Saadeddin Othmani.

The paper cited private sources as saying that the Moroccan authorities have welcomed the Spanish prime minister’s proposal.

Morocco said earlier that it will apply to host the World Cup in 2030; a day after losing out on the right to organise the tournament for 2026.
