Here, we take a look at the key details you need to know about the qualification process.
What are the seedings?
Pot One: England, Switzerland, Portugal and Holland - the four Nations League finalists - are automatically in pot one, but under the guise of 'the Nations League pot' and will be placed in Groups A-D, which are five-team groups. Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Croatia and Poland complete the top seeds.
Pot Two: Germany are the headline team in the second group after their relegation from the top tier of the Nations League and will be the team to avoid. Wales need not worry about Joachim Low's side as they join the 2014 World Cup winners in pot two, alongside Iceland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ukraine, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Austria and Czech Republic.
Pot Three: Northern Ireland, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland are all in pot three alongside Norway, Serbia, Finland, Bulgaria, Israel, Slovakia and Turkey.
Pot Four: Hungary, Romania, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Cyprus, Estonia, Slovenia, Lithuania and Georgia.
Pot Five: Macedonia, Kosovo, Belarus, Luxembourg, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Gibraltar and Faroe Islands.
Pot Six: Latvia, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Malta and San Marino.
How many groups are there?
There are 10 groups in total, with half of the groups containing five teams and half six. All four Nations League finalists are guaranteed to be in the five-team groups so they can participate in the finals held in Portugal next summer.
When are the matches played?
Qualification starts on March 21-23 2019, with the final round of qualifiers taking place on November 17-19. There will be two matchdays in March, June, September, October and November. England, Switzerland, Portugal and Holland will miss the third and fourth matchdays in June to take part in the Nations League Finals.
How do teams qualify?
The top two from each group will earn a place at Euro 2020. The remaining four spots are for play-off winners. The 16 teams that won their Nations League groups will contest the play-offs, unless they have already qualified, in which case the play-off place will go to the next best team from the same league which has not already qualified. The play-offs will take place in March 2020.
Anything else to keep in mind?
UEFA has tried to give all 12 Euro 2020 host nations a chance of qualifying. Therefore, no more than two nations staging games can be in the same group. That includes England, Scotland, Republic of Ireland, Azerbaijan, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Holland, Italy, Romania, Russia and Spain.
