Alabama’s “one of a kind quarterback whisperer” soon is expected to have a different title — offensive coordinator.

Nick Saban is expected to promote Dan Enos to offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide, sources confirmed to al.com.

Enos will be taking over for Mike Locksley, who recently landed the Maryland coaching job. Enos, who was hired as the Tide’s quarterbacks coach in January, has earned rave reviews throughout the year based on his work with a group led by Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts.

Enos, who has known Saban since the late 1980s when he was a player at Michigan State, came to Alabama after three seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Arkansas. Enos previously was the coach at Central Michigan from 2010 to 2014.

According to sources, Enos had multiple FBS offensive coordinator offers last year once Arkansas fired Bret Bielema and his staff, including one from Rutgers, but instead he took an assistant job at Michigan before ultimately landing at Alabama.

Now, a year later, he’s set to take over as the leader of a Tide offense that will return the Heisman runner-up at quarterback (Tagovailoa), the Biletnikoff Award winner (Jerry Jeudy), the SEC Freshman of the Year (Jaylen Waddle) and several other starters from this year’s unit that’s ranked second nationally in scoring offense.

“He’s always been a really bright guy and had great competitive character,” Saban said of Enos earlier this season. “I followed him when he was a head coach at Central Michigan. And having to play against him when he was at Arkansas for the last few years, we were always very challenged by the system and the scheme and the things that they did. I thought their offense was always really well-coached. So I guess I’ve always had a high opinion of him, but having to play against someone you develop even a greater respect for how they’re doing what they do.”
