Mayor Lori Lightfoot Dines With Oprah Winfrey

Just after her election, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot spoke with the president. Now, she's dining with Chicago royalty.

Lightfoot and her wife Amy Eshleman recently stopped by Oprah Winfrey's home for dinner, according to a photo the billionaire media mogul posted on Instagram Tuesday.

"Look who came for dinner," Winfrey wrote, adding, "Our first time meeting," plus the hashtag #sweethomechicago.

Lightfoot said at an unrelated news conference Tuesday that the dinner took place last Thursday. Lightfoot was in California Thursday and Friday, attending a fundraiser held by former Sen. Barbara Boxer in Palm Springs.

"She's a remarkable person as you know," Lightfoot said of Oprah.

"Our folks had reached out and she was very generous in inviting my wife and I to dine with her at her house, and it was great," she added.

"She's a tremendous person, clearly is up to date on things that are happening in Chicago," Lightfoot said, adding that Winfrey "loves this city so I was grateful for the opportunity to meet with her."

Winfrey sold her last piece of real estate in the Chicago area - a home in suburban Elmwood Park - in October 2018.
