Bill Maher to Howard Stern: 'We Don't Go for All the Bulls*** on the Left'

October 15th, 2019 6:03 PM

There is no greater enigma in late-night television than Bill Maher. Depending on the day, one could get the somewhat rational Maher pleading with the left wing to cut back on their extremist antics or the radical Maher who prays for a recession. On Friday’s Real Time, audience members were witness to the former as Maher lamented with radio host Howard Stern on the crumbling state of the Democratic Party.

According to Maher, the only truth-speaking forces remaining in the country are himself and Stern, two individuals who self-identify as liberals (no surprise). Not pretentious at all:

I swear to god, when I listen to you, I think there's only two sane people left in America, and it's me and this guy I'm listening to. I swear to God because, I invariably agree with you on everything. Everything that comes up.

Stern, jumping at the opportunity to stroke Maher’s ego, questioned the reason behind the show’s inability to win an Emmy award:

…I'm such a fan of this show, and I think this show is so necessary right now. And Bill's voice -- and I will say one other thing, if I may. I really am shocked -- I know you probably don't care about winning an Emmy and I know you've been nominated. But you've never actually won.

Never one to shy away from self-adulation, Maher explained what he believed to be the rationale for the lack of recognition he receives. Albeit exaggerated, it did contain a semblance of underlying truth (for liberals):

This gets to something else we both have in common...Why I don't win that Emmy? We are honest people. People don't like honesty. They say they do, the fans do, but --

It is no secret diversity of thought is essentially prohibited in Tinseltown. Failure to ascribe to all leftist policies automatically labels one as rogue. While Maher is often times as obnoxiously leftist as all the rest are, there are also moments of self-reflection on his part which would grant him that label. Stern questioned how this could be the case in a liberal town; “But why -- why, if Hollywood is such a liberal town, you would think Hollywood would be -- ”

Then, in what might have been Maher’s most biting remark to date on current liberal ideals, he stated: “That's why you and I are the last sane people, because we are liberals, but we don't go for all the bullshit on the far left.”

When a member of the leftist cohort is describing Democrat policies in such a way, it may be time for others in the media to take the humility pill Maher just swallowed.

BILL MAHER: I'm happy to have you and I'm very happy that we got to be friends again. Because I swear to God-

HOWARD STERN: Yeah. It was too long.

MAHER: I swear to god, when I listen to you, I think there's only two sane people left in America, and it's me and this guy I'm listening to. I swear to God because, I invariably agree with you on everything. Everything that comes up.

STERN: Well, I felt awful that we weren't talking for so long, because I'm such a fan of this show, and I think this show is so necessary right now. And Bill's voice- and I will say one other thing, if I may. I really am shocked -- I know you probably don't care about winning an Emmy and I know you've been nominated. But you've never actually won.

MAHER: 40 times:

STERN: Is it really 40 times? 40 times, I mean give the man an Emmy already. Not many guys are working live-

MAHER: This gets to something else we both have in common.

STERN: Yes.

MAHER: Why I don't win that Emmy? We are honest people. People don't like honesty. They say they do, the fans do , but-

STERN: But why-why- if Hollywood is such a liberal town, you would think Hollywood would be-

MAHER: That's why you and I are the last sane people, because we are liberals, but we don't go for all the bullshit on the far left.

STERN: Right, right. And maybe that's- I don't know what itis-

MAHER: That's not good enough for the liberals who vote at the academy.
