DAVENTRY, NORTHAMPTON, UNITED KINGDOM, February 21, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- he local Muslim community along with leaders from Catholic and Methodists arranged a simple and elegant inauguration of a new Mosque in Daventry. The new Mosque will serve the needs of 35 Muslim families living in mostly Christian Neighbourhood.
The project was led by Ahtram Muhammad, along with the Muslim residents of the area. Daventry is a Christian majority area, with only 35 Muslim families residing the neighborhood. Before the inauguration of Daventry Masjid, the residents of the area used a leased building from the local council, which served as praying place.
Given the development in the area, the building was taken away by the local council, following which Ahtram Muhammad, along with local Muslim residents began a fundraising campaign for building a new mosque.
Talking to the news reporter at the event, Mr. Rameez Ul Haq who led the campaign shared his views, “the local Muslim populace of the area needed a place of worship for long. For 8 years a leased flat served as the primary praying area for residents, which was retaken by the local council on behalf of developments in the area. For the project, we needed £ 200,000, for which we were able to gather the majority of the funds (£140,000) within the community. A generous donation was also gathered by Muslims from other areas, who frequently visit Daventry for work purposes. The remaining funds were generated through Qarz-e-Hasna, and donations from various mosques.”

The inauguration event was attended by various religious leaders and interfaith community members, as a gesture of co-existence and interfaith harmony. Some of the notable attendees of the event include; Michael Webber (Methodist Minister), Andy Hardwick (Methodist Leader), James Casidy (Roman Catholic Leader), Sashi Dholakia (Wellingborough Faith Group), Sam Dobbs (Sargent Northampton), Cllr Lynne Taylor (Mayor), William Duncan, Luisa Jepson & Sue Ward (Northampton Interfaith).

Talking to the media, Mr. Sam Dobbs, Seargent Northampton praised the efforts by Ahtram Muhammad and other Muslim residents of the area in construction of the mosque. He was particularly impressed by the open door policy, for better coexistence and interfaith harmony among various religious groups residing the area.

The high point of the event was the essential address delivered by Imam Badar ul Islam, during which he explained the true resolution of Mosques and highlighted the importance of interfaith coexistence and rights of neighbors in the light of the teachings of Islam. Mr. Barad-ul-Islam served as the spokesperson for the event, while he also serves as the Imam for the newly opened mosque.

Addressing the attendees for the purpose of Mosque, Imam Badar-ul-Islam said, “The Daventry Masjid will serve as the primary place of worship for Muslim residents of the area. The masjid can accommodate two hundred people at a time, which will be sufficient for the local community.” He further said, “The Daventry mosque won’t only serve as the place of worship but also as a teaching facility”.

The inauguration event of the Daventry Masjid in presence of local authorities, religious leaders from other faiths, and interfaith leaders is a commendable effort which will help bring people from all religious communities closer. The community hopes that the step will serve as an example for the most parts of the country to promote efforts for interfaith peace and coexistence.
