Habitat of South Palm Beach County Recruiting “Sisterhood of the Pink Hard Hats”

HFHSPBC 2018 WOMEN Build registration is now open. Seeking 150 women to don pink hard hats, raise funds and build new Habitat homes during Mother’s Day Week

BOCA RATON, FL, UNITED STATES, March 20, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County (HFHSPBC) is recruiting WOMEN Builders for this year’s women-exclusive fundraiser scheduled for the days leading up to Mother’s Day: Thursday, May 10 to Saturday, May 12. The nonprofit’s WOMEN Build combines fundraising with “camaraderie-of-a-rare-kind” that harnesses and celebrates the unstoppable power of mission-driven women to come together to help transform their community with a “hand up, not a hand out” for two hard-working, low income moms and their families.

Purposely timed in countdown to Mother’s Day, Habitat for Humanity recognizes that women are uniquely positioned to nurture families and build communities. The HFHSPBC build is part of the Habitat for Humanity National “Women Build” — founded in 1991—that annually enlists and encourages women across the country, with or without any construction skills, to fundraise and build homes for families in their local communities.

The “Sisterhood of the Pink Hard Hats” will learn how to wield a buzz saw and hammer like a pro, and meet and work alongside other dynamic women who want to make a transformational difference in their community. As women-empowerment drivers, these WOMEN Builders will deliver significant impact that enriches lives and communities, one home, one family at a time.

WOMEN Builders Hail From Various Genres

The 2018 “sisterhood” draws from various genres, including elected officials and civic leaders; business owners and executives in banking and financial services, healthcare, real estate, home design, retail, restaurants, business organizations and associations, nonprofits and foundations, public relations and marketing firms, media, construction, space and city planning, property management, education, HR, law and accounting firms, churches and synagogues.

“After seeing our work completed and homes recently dedicated with the heartwarming Habitat blessing on the home and the official passing of the keys to each new Habitat Partner Family was exhilarating and personally meaningful to us collectively and individually,” said 2017 Habitat WOMEN Build Honorary Chairwoman Susan Haynie, a general contractor by profession who serves as mayor of the City of Boca Raton and immediate past president of the Florida League of Cities, Inc., and has agreed to return as the 2018 WOMEN Build Honorary Chair.

Minimum “Give or Get” Required

Each registered WOMEN Builder commits to “give or get” a minimum of $1,000 through their personal fundraising efforts or making the donation to help underwrite the construction materials used in the 2018 “Houses That Women Built” in South Palm Beach County. Once an individual meets/surpasses her $1,000 commitment she will be eligible to work onsite with other WOMEN Builders alongside the families who will live in the homes.

“Last year our WOMEN Builders collectively raised more than $110,000 with each finding that their own personal experience was priceless,” added Kari Oeltjen, HFHSPBC Chief Development Officer. “Because these women teamed up and went ‘outside their comfort zones’ wielding hammers and raising roof trusses with women who share similar interests and passion for community advocacy, each will tell you they were personally changed forever.”
No Construction Experience Required.

Absolutely no construction experience is required; the volunteer builders will be working under the guidance of HFHSPBC construction professionals.

“All one needs is the unbridled passion to take meaningful action by helping build, fundraise and advocate for good, affordable housing for everyone,” adds Oeltjen about this unique women-only experience.

Registration and Fundraising Are Simple
To participate in the on-site build days, each woman must fulfill her $1,000 commitment via the designated HFHSPBC WOMEN Build campaign website. Once registered as a WOMEN Builder by selecting the WOMEN Build tab at the top of the home page of www.habitatsouthpalmbeach.org, participants can create their own fundraising page.

Registered Builders Invited to Private Kick-off Reception

This year’s WOMEN Builders will celebrate their commitments together during a private mix-and-mingle launch reception on Wednesday, March 28 at
6 p.m. at Sklar Furnishings, 6300 North Federal Highway in Boca Raton.

The 2018 WOMEN Build fundraising incentive "push" gift, a pair of $8,000 18-kt rose gold pink sapphire and diamond door-knocker earrings donated by WOMEN Build "Sapphire Sponsor" Jay Feder Jewelers will be on display at the reception.
