Media Advisory: 113th Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Conference Schedule of Media Conferences and Releases

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, Aug. 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) will be holding its 113th Annual Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia from August 12th to 15th, 2018. The conference is co-hosted with the Halifax Regional Police, the Halifax District RCMP and the Halifax Military Police Unit of the Canadian Armed Forces.

The following provides a schedule of the media conferences that will take place and of the releases to be issued during this period:

Monday, August 13th, 2018

  • Media Conference*:  Kick-off of the CACP’s 113th Annual Conference: Policing in an Ever Changing World
    • Time: 10:45 a.m. (Atlantic Daylight Time)
    • Location: Halifax Convention Centre, Room 502, Ballroom Level
    • Purpose: To discuss the conference theme and objectives
    • Speakers: Directeur Mario Harel, President of the CACP, and Chief Jean-Michel Blais, from the Halifax Regional Police

  • Media Tour of the Conference Exhibit Hall:
    • Time: Immediately following the Q& A session of the media conference
    • Location: Halifax Convention Centre, Convention Hall Level
    • Purpose: Get a glimpse of the latest products and services available to police services across Canada.

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

  • Media Conference* & Technical Briefing:  Launch of the Introduction to Cannabis Legislation online training module for Canadian police officers
    • Time: 9:00 a.m. (Atlantic Daylight Time)
    • Location: Halifax Convention Centre, Room 502, Ballroom Level
    • Purpose: Introduce and provide a demonstration of the new cannabis online training module
    • Speakers - Launch: Directeur Mario Harel, President of the CACP; Mr. Sandy Sweet, President of the Canadian Police Knowledge Network (CPKN)
    • Speakers - Technical briefing: Ms. Geneviève Tremblay, Director – RCMP National Learning Services, and Ms. Krystine Richards, Director – Outreach & External Relations for the CPKN

  • CACP Resolutions
    • Time: 10:00 a.m. (Atlantic Daylight Time)
    • Purpose: The resolutions adopted by the CACP membership during the Annual General Meeting on Monday, August 13th, including background information, will be available on the CACP website at www.cacp.ca.

Wednesday, August 15th, 2018

  • News release: The CACP Recognizes Excellence in Policing and Public Safety
    • Time: 11 a.m. (Atlantic Daylight Time)
    • Purpose: To announce the recipients of the following policing and public safety awards presented during the 113th CACP Annual Conference:

      • CACP/Motorola Awards of Excellence in Emergency Preparedness
      • CACP Award of Excellence for Combating Organized Crime
      • CACP Traffic Safety Awards
      • CACP International Policing Award
      • Canadian Banks’ Law Enforcement Awards
      • Bank of Canada Award for Excellence in Counterfeit Deterrence

  • Media Conference*:  Annual Conference Wrap-up and Introduction of the new CACP President
    • Time: 1:45 p.m. (Atlantic Daylight Time)
    • Location: Halifax Convention Centre, Room 502, Ballroom Level
    • Purpose:
    • Speaker: The newly-elected President of the CACP will discuss what was accomplished at this conference and offer insight on his aspirations for the association over his 2-year term.
